Spotlight on Adelaide
Business Events Adelaide Famil

Destination South Australia 2023

A member of the GEMS team was lucky enough to attend Business Events Adelaide’s Destination SA Famil (DSA) back in March and we encourage you to take a look at what Adelaide has to offer.

A three-day program, jam-packed with site-visits, venue inspections, and networking appointments left a lasting impression on attending event organisers for all the right reasons.  Highlights included the Welcome Reception, hosted by Light, an exciting new multi-level event space, a visit to Seppeltsfield Winery, and the Conference Dinner held in Adelaide’s Botanic Gardens.  The catering provided across the three days was exceptional and showcased why Adelaide is one of Australia’s top food and wine destinations.

If you’re looking for hotel event space, check out the recently refurbished
Pullman. Their Ballroom can take up to 360 theatre style and splits into 4 breakouts. Eos by SkyCity has several interesting social function spaces and SkyCity’s Ballroom allows up to 600 theatre style, and splits into two with and additional break out space on the same floor.

The National Wine Centre, (known as a great social function space) has 6 versatile conference rooms catering from small to mid-size meetings (up to 450 theatre) , and the Adelaide Oval is a great option for large-scale conferencing with a difference.

So Why Adelaide?

Far more than just the city of churches, Adelaide is making a name for itself as the place to be for global business and innovation leaders.  Tonsley and Lot 14 innovation districts are attracting significant investment to South Australia and are home to numerous organisations leading the way in manufacturing, education, research, renewable energy, and technology.  Both locations have the capacity to host social events and site visits relating to various fields of interest.

Anyone that has been to Adelaide will know how accessible it is as a city.  Adelaide Convention Centre (which recently underwent a multi-million-dollar upgrade) is walking distance from over 3000 accommodation rooms. Investment in the city is evident everywhere you look.  Numerous hotels have undergone a refurb since 2020, and new properties are popping up all over the city.

Clients are spoiled for choice in terms of finding a space to suit their needs. From small-to large scale events you will find several spaces that are a perfect fit.  The only constraint at present is availability.  The meetings industry is back, more eager than ever to reconnect, and venues are booking out into 2026 and beyond.

People are catching on to the fact that South Australia is rivalling the East-Coast as an events destination, and without the premium price-tag. The South Australian Government’s commitment to sustainability and investment in Business Events, coupled with the variety and locality of venues, not to mention the superb quality of regional food and wines is undoubtedly raising the profile of Adelaide and the regions for events.

GEMS Event Management are excited to be heading back to South Australia twice more in 2023.  In August for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Oil Spill Response Workshop at the Stamford Grand, Glenelg, and September for the Better Together - AASE National Conference 2023 at the Hilton Adelaide.
