Welcome to the 2012 SIAQ State Conference
On behalf of the Conference Organising Committee, we would like to invite you to join us for the 2012 Stormwater Industry Association of Queensland (SIAQ) State Conference. The Conference will be held at The Sebel King George Square, Brisbane on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 May 2012 with optional pre conference workshops on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 May 2012.
The theme for the 2012 State Conference is 'Raining a Revolution' and focuses on critically assessing the reforms required across the industry, alongside the challenges and opportunities of implementing them, to better manage stormwater in Queensland.
As the recent Queensland floods have shown, there are countless locations where flooding hazards are still unknown and remain an ever-present threat to the safety and well-being of residents and a threat to private property and public infrastructure.
With this 2012 Conference, the SIAQ hopes to create an environment which stimulates a review of these tragic events, while providing an opportunity to examine the wider set of stormwater management reforms needed across the industry as we move towards Total Water Cycle Management. This will be an opportunity to better understand and manage the information gaps associated with floodplain and stormwater management, to address critical political, funding and stakeholder consultation issues and in doing so to bring about changes from the lessons learned.
The Conference will encourage discussion and debate around how we can successfully revolutionise the stormwater industry and work towards achieving truly water sensitive cities that can accommodate the increasingly challenging pressures of urban population growth and climate change.
The Conference will also provide a great opportunity to network with colleagues and peers, attracting delegates from the private sector, government and universities, including engineers, scientists, landscape architects, contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, educators, researchers and other industry professionals.
